Cochise Hill referred to in the DMV as Cochise, has a well versed reputation as an Entrepreneur, licensed and bonded Booking Agent and “the” hub of DC’s local and industry connections. Refusing to divert a single obstacle, Cochise Hill’s positive and hard-working status influenced his street handle as “the man known to get things done.”
Early Life:
Born Cochise Hill on May 8th, this Taurus grew up in the streets of NE Washington, DC. At the age of 12, Cochise nurtured his interest for music learning to play the piano while performing weekly in church. Developing a passion for harmony and composition, Cochise learned to spin records, becoming a Disc Jockey and booking gigs as a DJ.
Early Career:
Cochise found employment in landscaping for “Eric’s Landscaping “in Fort Washington, MD. Taught to cultivate and maintain natural scenery, Cochise’s organic talent provided him with the opportunity to landscape for known celebrities, to include: Pervis Ellison who played for the Washington Bullets; Riddick Bowe; Dan Snyder; Mike Tyson as well as Mike Tyson’s ex-wife, Monica Turner. It was Mrs. Turner’s appreciation for Cochise’s skill set that encouraged him further, while she would not allow anyone other than Cochise to tend her lawn. Motivated, by the gratitude Cochise received from his clients, for his gift in scenic art, as well as his mother’s words “to be the best at whatever he did,” Cochise set out to master his strengths. Obtaining a supervisory position with Fedex Field in Washington, DC, Cochise went on to manage the upkeep of large grounds. Eventually, Cochise wanted more and decided to pursue other avenues to help him continue his developing path.
Awarded a GED from Franklin Adult Education, Cochise opted to move forward with additional education and training. Joining an apprenticeship under IBEW Local 26 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Craftsmanship), Cochise worked feverishly to become a Master Electrician after 15 years of training. Adding to the umbrella of his success, Cochise attended Phelps Vocational Training for Power mechanics and was later privileged with employment at the Pentagon. Cochise went back to IBEW, where he later met Alina Seven, an anchor woman, at that time, for WPGC Radio. Alina also worked with Columbia School of Broadcasting, collectively serving as an ideal contact for Cochise’s entertainment empire down the road. Alina presented Cochise with a new opportunity for work under a training program educating Engineers.
It was then that Cochise stumbled back into the nightlife and music industry in his first budgeted project in support of Dream Nightclub. While the club was under construction, Cochise was hired to install their electrical system. Mark Barnes, the Club’s owner, was so impressed with Cochise’s work ethic, his upbeat personality, and personal affiliations, he offered him a job managing and maintaining the system while interacting in the club atmosphere. Cochise accepted in hopes of finding continued growth and stability. Dream Nightclub was eventually sold and renamed Club Love. However; Cochise’s reputation preceded him and served as a bridge for additional work with the new club owner, Dean Smothers (also a member of the DC Fire Department).
Cochise last worked as an electrician in 2008, at the commencement of Obama’s presidential campaign. During his work on a fundraiser at the Upper Marlboro Presidential Golf Club, for Presidential candidate Barack Obama, Cochise was hired to construct the building’s lighting. Although Cochise was grateful for the education and job training received over the years, even more so the ability to leave the street life for a satisfying and fulfilling role he could be proud of, he was eager to venture a new path; one that would embrace and foster his passion for entertainment and music.
Entertainment Career:
Starting with Cochise’s hobby as a piano player and DJ; his interpersonal relationships with A-list personalities during his diverse work portfolio; his experience working with night clubs; and his “gift for gab,” Cochise was on the path to live-out his ultimate dream. Club management recognized Cochise networking aptitude and gave him the opportunity to change career paths, taking a self-made approach. Aware of Cochise’s brilliant negotiating skills and his outgoing personality, Cochise was hired to promote and book entertainment for numerous events.
The company:
Taking his passion seriously, Cochise acquired his licensing and was bonded to book entertainment; officially providing A&R services to his clientele through his company Check1 Entertainment, LLC. Cochise later became the first licensed and bonded agent affiliated with the Washington, DC Police Department.
With the opening of Check1 Entertainment, LLC, Cochise decided to model his company around his journey; scouting local and exceptional talent from all walks of life. Cochise describes the business as a stage for its artists. Providing management and recording services for his talent, Cochise oversees their development in the studio and on the stage. With close to 2,000 contracts, and arranged tours through Atlanta, Florida, Texas and many more to come, Cochise has ensured his future and those that surround him, as bright and prosperous.
Presently:
Working with the DC Police, Cochise was enlisted to find talent for the DC “Beat the Streets” campaign; its mission to “Develop full human and athletic potential of the urban youth and prepare them to enter college.” Cochise’s effort to bring awareness to the disease (drugs and prison) plaguing our youth once like him, has transformed him from not only a proven success story and dazzling businessman but a philanthropist and humbled servant giving back to “his” community.
